Coastal FC Acknowledges National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Amid Ongoing Games

September 30, 2023 - 9:01AM PST

On September 30, 2023, we commemorate the third National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is a national movement and annual event in Canada. During this day Indigenous and non-Indigenous people come together in the spirit of hope and reconciliation to honour residential school survivors, their families, and communities.

We invite all club members to join in by wearing orange for warmups on September 30 & and October 1. Game play will be administered by the league and uniform rules will still apply. We are also providing optional ribbons for players to wear around their arms at SSAP if they choose to do so. This gesture serves as a way to acknowledge the tragic history of residential schools and to pay tribute to the many survivors.

We hope these resources will allow our players, their families, coaches and staff to reflect on and gain a deeper understanding of Truth and Reconciliation Day.
