Maple Ridge, BC – Coach Simon Green and 14-year-old player Hazel Martz represented Coastal FC at the 2024 BC Summer Games, held from July 17 to July 21. Competing with the Zone 4 U15 Girls Soccer team, both showcased their talents in a highly competitive environment.
The BC Summer Games are held every two years and spotlight emerging athletes, coaches, and officials across eight geographic zones. Participants qualify through events managed by the Provincial Sport Organization, which occur six months to just weeks before the Games.
Simon Green, who joined Coastal FC in 2021 and currently coaches the Coastal FC 2007F White team, served as the Assistant Coach for the Zone 4 U15 Girls Soccer team. Reflecting on the experience, Simon shared, "It was a very enjoyable and highly rewarding experience over the ten weeks from team selections, practices, team events, through to the opening ceremony and the 4-day Games. Meeting so many highly experienced coaches and getting their insight was great. I'm proud to have represented Coastal FC and the local community—such a wonderful opportunity for talented young players from our Zone to experience a unique multi-sport competition environment. The team was amazing and did us proud. A truly memorable event."
Hazel Martz, who has been with Coastal FC since 2013 and now plays as a Right Back for the Coastal FC 2009F White team, also made a significant impact. "I was honoured to represent Zone 4, Fraser River, at the BC Summer Games. This experience gave me the opportunity to challenge myself and grow my skills as a player. I made so many memories with the teammates I trained and competed with that I will never forget." Hazel reflected.
Simon Green's and Hazel Martz's performances at the BC Summer Games showcased their individual skills and demonstrated the strength and dedication of Coastal FC.
